Is there any question now why this guy couldn't make it in Germany? Twice? He's soft, and it showed in the big games for the US. He doesn't have the sack to take a team on his back and carry them (i.e., Zidane, Viera, Essien, Roszicy) when they need the spark. Put it another way, does anyone doubt that La-Do would cry if you hit him in the arm hard enough? I hate to say it, but we're soft as butter in the middle of the field. Maybe when McBride leaves the team he can will his stones to Donovan.
So why am I going to support this schmoe wearing the Gold & Green? Rather see new, young guys who really want it than a dude who has shown he'll shrivel when the games really count.

Big question is does he attempt to go to Europe. As stupid as this sounds but next WC will be his last. His preparation begins now. Will he be signed in Europe? Or will he win another US Open and MLS Cup w/ LA that will continue to effect his level of play at the Big Stage. Conveys the future in the middle.

There's not a chance that La-Do will go back to Europe. He's living in Manhattan Beach with his girl, playing on a team that doesn't care if he tries or not, in a league nobody is paying attention to. Why move? I'd do that for the $900,000 he's making each year.
He's finished. He's at the height of his skill now. He'll never be any better, and he'll never grow the minerals to match his talent. I'll go on a limb and say he's not the Captain of our next WC Team. You're hearing it here first.
And what happens in 2 years when Becks comes to LA? Can you afford to pay a guy $900,000/yr who doesn't try when you've got a star on the team who actually deserves that much money and will? Donovan better figure it out quick or I think he's on the fast-track to anonymity.
