so what's the deal with moving the San Jose Earthquakes to Houston? the earthquakes won the title in 2001 and 2003 and the fans gave their team strong support for their efforts. i'll tell you what, never in a million years would i want to live and play in houston over san jose. you wonder why the mls has trouble getting support; well for bonehead moves like this one, you can see why soccer in the us on a national aspect is still struggling.

What the MLS did was pathetic. No nice way to say it. The people in charge just don't have the concept of what makes soccer so special. I look to teams that have endured through several different leagues and it gives me hope. Remember the Seattle Sounders from the NASL days? What about the Timbers from Portland. They are back, along with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the USL 1. They are able to claim long histories and have maintained some form of tradition and a supporters base. What does Houston have? None of that.
Here's the good news. The Earthquakes are not dead. There is a group in San Jose working to bring an Earthquakes Franchise back. i would love to see them go into the USL 1 but it looks like they are working into the MLS.

You can't blame MLS, They are a for profit company that serves the investors of people who invested in the soccer league/team. Remember where we were before MLS? Plus, the entertainment product was weak. Bad stadium, overall quality of play, and Lando left for Germany. No stadium and it made sense to leave that community.
Where are the SEALS?

Why would a for profit company move it's #1 supported team? San Jose put people in the stands. They needed a new stadium, but they didn't get a soccer specific facility when they moved to Houston did they? To say there overall quality of play was bad reflects very poorly on the league considering they won two MLS championships. As for Landy-Cakes, why didn't the MLS put him back in San Jose when he came back from Germany? Profits is the correct answer there and a total disrespect for the game and the fans. This league will go nowhere as long as there is no autonomy for the clubs. It'll continue to be a joke in the football world.
Houston has the same amount of fans as San Jose, Local soccer fan we have to wait for 2008 season for anew team :)
